A team leader within a contact centre
Within a contact centre there are several teams and team members. Each team would have a team leader followed by the assistant call centre manager, call centre manager and site manager. Many contact centre staff which have worked within the company for some time can apply internally to the team leader positions. A majority of team leaders are promoted from their previous roles including customer service consultants, payments consultants, sales consultants and administrators.
The role of a team leader is to monitor the teams' performance, carry out team meetings as well as attending weekly and monthly meetings. It is the team leader's responsibility that their team is doing well and meeting their individual and team targets. Anyone underperforming would need to be attended to and resolved. Every team member would need to undergo a personal development program, it is essential that the team leader is able to help the team member to find and work on any weaknesses and give them advice as to how to overcome and improve them. Team leaders would need to write up general reports on each person's performance and targets and ensure they are fully met each month, if not, what the reasons are behind it and whether it can be resolved and when.
Team leaders are provided with further experience which enables them to take control over calls and how to appropriately handle complaints and resolve issues. It is important that they are able to lead and motivate a team and be able to drive the teams' performance. Any problems or issues that the team has, would have to be raised to the team leader, therefore the team leader must try and solve the problems or pass onto the senior managers.
There are plenty of different contact centre roles to choose from and team leader is just one of the roles. Although a majority of team leader roles are promoted internally, there are still positions advertised across different websites that people can apply for. Anyone who has previous experience within a similar role or have supervising experience in another industry is also welcomed to apply.
